Sunday, April 27, 2014 (2 weeks old!)

We are so thankful to everyone for all your love, support, prayers and desire to help us.  We are so grateful for each one of you and love you very much.

This morning they took a chest X-ray of Mettie.  Her left lung collapsed again.  She has had to work hard to breath.  They said they most likely will have to put the breathing tube back in.  The Doctor said that patients with this heart condition, Tetra logy of Fallot don't require this much help with their respiratory.

Mettie's nurse let me hold her for a couple hours, how quickly that time goes.  It was a strong moment of connection with Mettie.  She would get upset but as I held her and talked with her she calmed right down.

Mettie loved her soft bamboo blankets.  She nestled right in to them.

Throughout the day they have taken blood gas draws and her levels got a little better.  Mid-morning they took another X-ray and the left lung looked a little better.  They weighed Mettie again today, she is down to 5 lbs, 6 oz.  In the early afternoon they put Mettie on Helli-Ox hoping that would go down her airway better.  She seemed to do better on it.

At 5pm we gathered in Mettie's room with all of our children, Matt's parents, my parents and Bishop Hooper to have Matt give her a name and a blessing. We sang "A Child's Prayer"...we tried through the tears.  The Spirit was so strong in this little hospital room.  Matt gave Mettie Skye a beautiful blessing, acknowledging that Mettie will have trials in her frail body but through all of them Her Heavenly Father will be with her. But because her spirit is strong she had been given this specific life.  Everyone around Mettie will grow in patience, compassion and love.
